Prelim Video

This is a small snippet of what the rest of the video will potentially look like and of what some of my ideas looked like in action. link to the video >  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_suQdPN17c

Lyrics for 'Kiss' - Pale Waves

[Verse 1]   Oh, you know just how to get to me   My heart's so lonely   You live inside my head   And I cry too much you said   Well you're the fashion right now, the fashion right   You know I want you tonight   Why most nights do you  wanna  live inside my head?   [Chorus]   You're a wave of a dream   Your love is clean   You're a wave of a dream   Your love is clean   [Verse 2]   Oh, you know just what to say   You show love in a different way   And you smelled smoke   We don't know where heaven is   And I'm feeling cold   But I guess we're different   [Chorus]   You're a wave of a dream   Your love is clean   You're a wave of a dream   Your love is clean   Just kiss me hard like you did at the start   Kiss me hard just like I'm breaking your heart   [Bridge]   Kiss me hard just like you did at the start ...

Costumes and Props

Image
In order to show influence from the original video and band, my costumes will consist of: trousers - black and white checked and black cropped ripped jeans, tops - black, black and white stripped or a bright block colour, jacket - denim, footwear - black boots or vans, make-up - I am going to try and emulate Heather Baron-Gracie, heavy eye shadow, dark lipstick, hair - I will try to get the same style as Ciara Doran as I do not have a fringe like Heather, and lots of rings/jewelry. I'm not going to rely heavily on props but I will include a few that are significant and that visualise the lyrics.

Setting/Locations

Image
For my video I would like to include a range of settings in order to make the video not too repetitive. I would like to shoot/have shots in fields whilst the sun is setting and just before, at the seafront during the day and sunset, of the sea, in front of some brick walls and street art - there is quite a lot in Southend or I will research places in London that has some aesthetically pleasing street art. The reason for my setting/location choices is due to the fact that I am unable to film my 'band' at a gig or in the same kind of environment as in the amateur video. I thought that if I shoot whilst the lighting is slightly dimmer then a similar vibe could be created, and as I am filming and staring in the video myself it is pretty impossible to get a band playing without including a number of different people - I want to complete this project with as little help as possible. Instead of it being a traditional indie rock video - band playing at different gigs - I wanted ...

Audience

I am aiming this music video at a middle class demographic - this includes ABC1. This kind of target audience is not fond of heavy swearing in songs but is fond of indie genre music, this song would particularly attract the likes of a white caucasian teenage middle-class females and males. PROFILES William Thomasson, 17, caucasian, middle-class. Has tattoos or is going to get tattoos. Wears clothing that is shorter lengthenlengthed(ankle grazer trousers, jumpers, colourful button up shirts) and has a haircut that is short at the back and sides but longer on top. May have piercings. Enjoys skateboarding, festivals, going to gigs such as Pale Waves, Catfish and The Bottlemen, The Amazons etc. Listens to Radio 1, watches a lot of YouTube, doesn't watch TV that often, reads magazines such as Kerang and NME. Esme Florence, 19, caucasian, middle-class. Dresses in edgy and potentially vintage clothing that is oversized. Shorter hair cut with a fringe, winged eye-liner or heavy b...

History of 'Kiss'

Image
So this song doesn't have an official video with it yet, as it was officially released 15th May 2018 via Radio 1. Although the song was officially released recently it is actually one of the bands original songs. Although there is no official video I was able to find a video that was taken 7th March 2018 at The Garage in London, which is coincidentally the gig where I saw them first. link to the amateur video > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R81FbdsOm1M The song consists of a formulaic format - versus and chorus - and is a romantic gesture, telling of a love to which vocalist, Heather Baron-Gracie, will follow and work with as best she can. A first love? To me, the song feels very dream-like. The song is very bubbly dream pop track that creates a really summery vibe, and is the perfect addition after the release of their debut EP All The Things I Never Said .

Codes and Conventions

Image
Codes and conventions of a short film/music video - The codes and conventions of music videos are the different techniques used to construct meaning in them. They are used so that the audience can become familiar with a particular genre, to provide a structure that the audience can understand and so that the lyrics of the song match with the video. These techniques can be divided into two sections; technical and symbolic.   Technical - how meaning is conveyed using technical equipment (the way camera angles are used, different shots, sound - diegetic and non-diegetic, and the genre) Symbolic - ways of showing meanings beyond what you can see (facial expressions, gestures, poses and mise en scène) General code and conventions - the style, the camera, editing techniques, use of sound, mise en scène and stereotyping. Codes and conventions of the indie rock genre - Indie rock and any other rock bands would usually use a lot of live performance footage in ...

Chosen song for music video and other info

Image
Pale Waves - 'Kiss' For the music video I was very stuck on what song to choose, especially due to the broad spectrum of songs that could be classified as ‘dance’ genre. After some hard deliberation, and hours of useless thought processes, whilst listening to music so that hopefully something would spark an interest and video ideas, 'Kiss' by Pale Waves came on. The perfect song. I love the bands music, I have many ideas to which I can put into action throughout the video and I think that I will be able to characterise myself within the video so that it seems like my own song/band. So I was thinking, with the song choice in mind and available time that I have, I am going to film the video by myself. From looking at previous music videos by those in year 13, I've found that the videos looked much more realistic when the person themselves is in the video alone. I will be much more passionate about giving a believable performance than someone that isn't eff...

Music Video Analysis 3

Pale Waves - The Tide   This music video was originally directed by Andy Deluca, the video features live footage of the band from their recent US tour. The footage is from multiple gigs within the tour, they've been mashed together so that it creates a really effective movement between the different performances. It's as if they are continuously playing, the only part that makes the fact that they are filmed in different locations obvious is the wardrobe changes from each gig. The video also includes back stage footage of their rehearsals and individual practices, some are sped up to keep in time with the musics tempo. Half-way through the video there is footage of the vocalist, Heather Baron-Gracie, playing her guitar and head banging. This footage has also been adjusted in order to fit in with the tempo changes of the music - she goes into slow motion during this section. Throughout the video, the band has a variety of coloured lights reflected onto them - blue, red, p...

Neck Deep - In Bloom Neck Deep are a Welsh pop punk band from Wrexham who formed in 2012. 'In Bloom' is from their album 'The Peace and the Panic' which was released in 2017 via Hopeless Records. In this song, the band are telling us that they are not the same, they've changed since the release of their last album and pieces of their lives aren't going to fit back together in the same way as before. Throughout the video the band reinforce the idea that the past should be left in the past, and that they should continue to move forward in life. Quotes from vocalist during an interview with Alt Press: "When we were writing Life's Not Out To Get You, we were going through a period of uninterrupted happiness, We were super-content, but as that album came out, life changed for us" "Over the two years we've toured that record, so much has happened that I've re-evaluated what life is about and questioned whether just having...
