Music Video Analysis 2
Neck Deep - In Bloom
Neck Deep are a Welsh pop punk band from Wrexham who formed in 2012. 'In Bloom' is from their album 'The Peace and the Panic' which was released in 2017 via Hopeless Records. In this song, the band are telling us that they are not the same, they've changed since the release of their last album and pieces of their lives aren't going to fit back together in the same way as before. Throughout the video the band reinforce the idea that the past should be left in the past, and that they should continue to move forward in life.

Quotes from vocalist during an interview with Alt Press:
"When we were writing Life's Not Out To Get You, we were going through a period of uninterrupted happiness, We were super-content, but as that album came out, life changed for us"
"Over the two years we've toured that record, so much has happened that I've re-evaluated what life is about and questioned whether just having a positive outlook is enough" (source of information- http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/neck-deep-dropped-new-song-called-bloom-incy-bit-emo/)
Throughout the pop and punk influences are visible within the video: flashes of colour, symbolic actions and props. There is also one shot of vocalist, Ben Barlow, that could be viewed as voyeurism; his head is resting a flowery bush. This could be viewed innocently due to his angelic look (light colours - blonde hair, blue eyes etc.), but it could also be viewed as a euphemism for a 'lady garden' as it were.

There are many cut-shots showing examples of items that are being destroyed in ways which mean that they can no longer be put back together, this is to symbolise the metaphor of the song. A physical representation of the lyrics. These shots include; a doughnut being squashed in someone's hand (a squashed doughnut cannot be fixed or made to look like it did originally when it is crumbled up) and someone attempting to put together a puzzle but trying to put the wrong pieces together, out of frustration of not being able to put the puzzle together they swipe the puzzle pieces off the surface. These both represent the lyrics of the chorus through physical objects.

Voyeurism usually refers to gaining pleasure from secretly watching someone (often sexual but also enjoying other emotions)
