Music Video Analysis 3

Pale Waves - The Tide

This music video was originally directed by Andy Deluca, the video features live footage of the band from their recent US tour. The footage is from multiple gigs within the tour, they've been mashed together so that it creates a really effective movement between the different performances. It's as if they are continuously playing, the only part that makes the fact that they are filmed in different locations obvious is the wardrobe changes from each gig. The video also includes back stage footage of their rehearsals and individual practices, some are sped up to keep in time with the musics tempo. Half-way through the video there is footage of the vocalist, Heather Baron-Gracie, playing her guitar and head banging. This footage has also been adjusted in order to fit in with the tempo changes of the music - she goes into slow motion during this section.

Throughout the video, the band has a variety of coloured lights reflected onto them - blue, red, purple.  At all their live performances they tend to have these lighting effects. I recently went to a gig of theirs in London (7th March 2018 at The Garage), and the lighting really flows with the music and style of the band, the atmosphere in the building wouldn't be the same without this added effect. They also continue to have dim, mysterious lighting throughout, individual shots of he band members with shadows across their faces to continue with the mystique that the band holds. The lighting also makes the viewer feel as if they are at the performance live, it also helps to re-emphasise the fact that they are a indie/rock/gothic/synth band - if the lighting were clearer and less shadowed then nothing would work together and all would seem out of place. The dark vibe brings everything together.

Unlike the band however, I am not going to have footage of a bad performing, I'm going to relate the images more towards the lyrics.
